As someone who grew up using the graphical interface, I was used to how slow navigation could be.

If I wanted to scroll down I would move the mouse over to the scroll bar and drag it. If I wanted to switch tabs I would scan through the previews until I found what I wanted and move the mouse to click it.

Then I discovered the wonderful world of keyboard shortcuts.

I never really understood the concept of a “power user” until I Googled how to reopen a closed tab. All the results told me Ctrl+Shift+T instead of some GUI option like I was used to, and as soon as I typed it I was hooked. Here are some of the other shortcuts I learned shortly after that have made my life easier ever since.

Keyboard shortcuts

These shortcuts should work in the browser of your choice if you’re a Windows user. On Mac, try replacing the “Control” key with the “ ⌘” key.

  • Control+Shift+T

Reopens the last closed tab, and you can use it multiple times to open tabs back up in the order you closed them.

  • Control+Shift+N
